Diving at Padang Bai

Padang Bai highlights

Padang Bai is a small fishing village with a beautiful beach and an underwater wonderland.

Padang Bai has colorful reef dives, rich sites for macro photographers, and a small shipwreck dive. You’ll find beautiful corals and be amazed at the variety of marine life you see. It’s a rich healthy site, vibrant and full of life. Keep an eye out for the buddha statues gazing serenely as you swim by.

The most popular dive site at Padang Bai is Blue Lagoon and there are many others too (including Jepun, the Jetty, Tanjung Sari, the Temple, and the Ferry Channel). You’ll do two enchanting dives, have lunch on the beach and be back to your hotel before dinner. What a great way to spend your time in Bali.

Blue Lagoon at Padang Bai

Blue Lagoon is the dive site we all dream about. It’s the kind of perfect dive site we saw on TV as a kid. White sand, colorful corals, and amazing marine life. Your divemaster is sure to do at least one dive in this sheltered bay. You’ll see masses of colorful reef fish. Octopus, squid and turtle are all common. It’s a shallow dive and protected from strong currents. You can’t dive Padang Bai without diving Blue Lagoon.

The amazing marine life at Padang Bai

There are a dozen dive sites at Padang Bai and they are all full of life. Take a look at the 90-second video at the top of this page (or click here) and you’ll see cuttlefish, crocodile fish, lionfish, octopus, frogfish, the little shipwreck, the buddha statues, and lots more too.

Other species commonly seen at Padang Bai include napoleon wrasse, crocodilefish, moray eels, pufferfish, clownfish and the wonderful mantis shrimp. Sharks are common, especially juveniles, including whitetip and blacktip reef sharks, nurse sharks and wobbegong.

Macro diving at Padang Bai

Padang Bai is a great place to dive if you are a macro photographers or if you just just love to see these tiny, amazing macro critters. Nudibranches abound of many different size, shape and color. With good eyes (or some help from your guide) you’ll have a great chance of seeing ornate, robust and ghost pipefish, rhinopias, leaf scorpionfish, squat lobsters, orangutang and zebra crabs, and the favorite pygmy seahorses. Warty, giant and painted frogfish are common. What a list!

You don’t need to drive to the far north of Bali to see amazing macro life. Ask any professional underwater photographer. There’s no better place than Padang Bai for macro critters in Bali.

Beach at Padang Bai

The beach at Padang Bai

The beach at Padang Bai is the beach of our dreams.

At the end of your dives you’ll have lunch at one of the many small restaurants that line the beach.

Dive Padang Bai if you’re looking for a dive site that suits both you the diver, and your non-diving family or friends. While you are diving they can swim, sunbathe, have a snack or a beer, browse for souvenirs or take a massage that costs almost nothing. Padang Bai is a great escape from the crowds and traffic of the busier parts of Bali.

Enjoy Bali as it’s meant to be.
