Bali Scuba Newsletter April 2014

The take-up for our birthday Half Price May Promo has been amazing. The Open Water and Advanced Open Water courses are now full, but there are still a few spaces left on other PADI courses and diving trips if you’re quick.

Last month was Nyepi – The Silent day, so Bali Scuba closed for the day, but we all enjoyed the parade of the ogoh-ogoh the day before.  If you would like to know more about Nyepi, check out the Bali Scuba Blog.

If you’ve been keeping up with our Zero to Hero, Santa, he has now surpassed 150 dives and is well on the way to becoming a PADI Divemaster.  We have also certified 17 new Instructors and 4 Divemasters over the past three months.

Bali Scuba instructors Ketut and Jing have progressed to IDC Staff Instructor and Master Instructor respectively and we would like to welcome two new Instructors Toto and Lily to the Bali Scuba family.

Talking of families, our Sales Manager Lisa had a little boy called Krisna and our Course Director Knut’s wife also had a baby boy called Erik. Congratulations to them both.

Great news for conservation as mantas have been declared a protected species here in Indonesia.  And here at Bali Scuba we are going green with all our manuals now on-line.

With your safety in mind we are piloting the Nautilus Lifeline system, especially for those  sites with strong currents in Nusa Penida and the East Coast Islands. You’ll want to dive these sites because just this last few months we have seen whale shark, mantas, mola mola and a pod of dolphins underwater.

Thank you for your ongoing support and we hope you like our newsletter.

Santa Update

Santa Rig liftSince our last newsletter Santa has been shadowing our Divemasters to get experience guiding and has amassed a whopping 150 dives in the process.  He has also been certified with the PADI Digital Underwater Photography specialty and has been turning his hand to making underwater videos. To see some of his work, check out our Facebook or Google+ page.

It won’t be long before Santa becomes a fully fledged PADI Divemaster. Here he is with our Course director Knut during his Search and Recovery Workshop.

Santa’s Zero to Hero program is sponsored by PADI, Bali Scuba and Dive Sport.

Nautilus Lifeline System

LifelineAt Bali Scuba we have been safely running trips around Bali for almost 15 years and are proud of our 100% accident-free record. However we always want to keep ahead of the game where your safety is concerned which is why we plan to be one of the very first dive centers in Bali to introduce the Nautilus Lifeline system. This will give you an added layer of protection at the sites with strong currents such as Nusa Penida and the East Coast Islands (Gili Tepekong and Gili Mimpang).

With the Nautilus Lifeline our dive guides can communicate with the pickup boat even if it’s out of sight. And with the GPS feature you’ll dive safe in the knowledge that we’ll always be able to find you no matter where the currents take you.

To read the full press release, check out the Bali Scuba Blog
.

Green Update

Manta 4Great news! The Fisheries and Maritime Affairs Minister of Indonesia has declared the reef manta ray (Manta alfredi) and oceanic manta ray (Manta birotris) as protected fish species.  If you want to read more about this check out the Bali Scuba Blog.

Bali Scuba celebrated Chinese New Year by donating the proceeds of our celebration dinner to Project AWARE.  Thank you if you were one of those donating at the dinner. Project AWARE is a non-profit, worldwide, organization dedicated to "Conserving underwater environments through education, advocacy and action".

In the meantime we have been saving trees by going 100% digital for all our recreational PADI courses.  This benefits not only the environment but you too if you take a course here as the digital manuals are kept up to date as things change, and they are available in multiple languages.

The Sidemount course consists of 1 day theory and pool session and then the 2nd day 3 awesome dives at one of Bali’s best diving sites, Nusa Penida.

Click here for more details on the benefits of Sidemount

This quarter Bali Scuba is hosting a Chinese New Year dinner on the 3rd of February for anyone that would like to celebrate with us and on the 16th of March we will be running an afternoon beach clean up for divers, snorkellers and helping hands in Sanur with a sausage sizzle (or Bali equivalent!) afterwards.  Please come along if you are in the area or email us on letsdive@baliscuba.com for more details.

East Indonesia Diving

Grand Komodo Bali ScubaIf you want to experience some of the best diving Indonesia has to offer. Komodo and Raja Ampat offer pristine reefs and unbeatable marine life. Without argument they are both world-class diving areas and you won't find better in Asia.

Bali Scuba has partnered with Grand Komodo; the genuine pioneers of East Indonesia diving. They may not have a slick marketing machine or gorgeous foreign Cruise Directors but with Grand Komodo you get something money can't buy – experience. Grand Komodo have been sailing these waters for 20 years and the Divemasters and boat captains know the diving areas like the backs of their hands. When nature doesn't allow Plan A, their intimate knowledge of the area allows them to seamlessly switch to Plan B. And because they have a fleet of boats an engine problem on one boat doesn't mean an end to your dream dive trip. And what boats they have! Traditional wooden Bugis phinisi which have been sailing these seas for hundreds of years. No other boat is so perfectly matched to Indonesian oceans or so beautiful.

Grand Komodo can tailor a package for you including land trips (you can’t miss a visit to the Komodo Dragons and Birds of Paradise), not only to Raja Ampat and Komodo but other pristine destinations in Indonesia.

The best thing of all is as you are a Bali Scuba customer you get 10% discount. For more information check out our website
