Komodo and Raja Ampat
Ready for the diving adventure of a lifetime? Ready to head East? Then get ready to experience some of the best diving Indonesia has to offer. Komodo and Raja Ampat offer pristine reefs and unbeatable marine life. Without argument they are both world-class diving areas and you won't find better in Asia.
Which should I choose, Komodo or Raja Ampat?
Both Komodo and Raja Ampat offer top-quality diving. Generally speaking Raja Ampat offers better diving conditions from October to April while Komodo is better from April to September. If you want big fish you may prefer Komodo. If you prefer more colourful dive sites and huge numbers of reef fish you will probably want to choose Raja Ampat. For a combination of great diving and unforgettable topside scenery then it's Raja Ampat. If you have limited time you will choose Komodo because it takes much longer to reach Raja Ampat.
Can I combine Komodo or Raja Ampat with a Bali dive trip?
Yes you can. Both trips start from and arrive back at Bali so you can choose to add a Bali dive program at either the start or the end of your Komodo or Raja Ampat trip. Whether you choose Komodo, Raja Ampat, or Bali we'll manage all the accommodation, transfers and flights within Indonesia - you just need to get yourself to Bali's Ngurah Rai international airport and we'll do the rest.
Will I be diving from a land-based resort or from a live aboard boat?
Bali is land-based so you'll be staying at a hotel each night. Komodo is dived from a liveaboard (LOB) so you'll be sleeping on the boat each night. For Raja Ampat you can choose either to dive from a LOB or from a land-based resort or a combination of both. If you're not sure which option suits you best just drop us a message and we'll help you decide based on how much time you have, your budget and your diving preference.
Who will I be diving with in Komodo or Raja Ampat?
Bali Scuba has partnered with Grand Komodo; the genuine pioneers of East Indonesia diving. They may not have a slick marketing machine or gorgeous foreign Cruise Directors but with Grand Komodo you get something money can't buy – experience. Grand Komodo have been sailing these waters for 20 years and the Divemasters and boat captains know the diving areas like the backs of their hands. When nature doesn't allow Plan A, their intimate knowledge of the area allows them to seamlessly switch to Plan B. And because they have a fleet of boats an engine problem on one boat doesn't mean an end to your dream dive trip. And what boats they have! Traditional wooden Bugis phinisi which have been sailing these seas for hundreds of years. No other boat is so perfectly matched to Indonesian oceans or so beautiful.
Is it a budget trip or a luxury trip?
Many operators offer "'luxury' trips but please don't confuse luxury with quality. With Bali Scuba and Grand Komodo you'll get a quality trip at an affordable price and be welcomed with genuine Indonesian hospitality. The fact that 70% of divers are repeat customers says it all.
