What are the age limits for PADI Discover Scuba?
Minimum 10 years old. There is no maximum age for scuba diving as long as you are of reasonable health and fitness.
Do I need to get a medical certificate?
Please read the medical questions on Page 1 of this form.
If you can answer ‘no’ to every question you are good to go, no need to see a doctor. If you answer ‘yes’ to any question you will need to ask a doctor to sign the form on Page 2. You can visit a doctor in your home country or we can help you to find a doctor here in Bali. The doctor doesn’t need to be a dive specialist.
Will I get pain in my ears?
Sometimes on a flight or diving down to the bottom of a swimming pool you may feel pain. This is because the air pressure is increasing and squeezing your ears. This won’t be a problem while you are diving because your Instructor will teach you a simple technique to prevent this (called ‘equalisation’). You’ll be able to use this technique on flights and in the swimming pool too!
Do I need to be able to swim?
No you don’t, but you do need to feel comfortable (not afraid) in the water.
How many dives will I do?
The first dive will be in the swimming pool (your Instructor may finish this dive in the ocean if you make good progress in the pool). The second dive will be in the ocean.
How deep will I dive?
Your maximum depth will be 12 meters (40 ft).
How long will I dive?
Each dive will be approximately 45 minutes.
What will I see?
The great thing about taking Discover Scuba in Bali is that there is so much marine life. You will see many different kinds of colourful fish and corals. The fish will be almost close enough to touch (but of course you shouldn’t).
If you choose to take your Discover Scuba dive in Tulamben you will dive at a World War Two wreck. What an amazing experience! Your friends will hardly believe it.
Whichever dive site you choose you will see incredible marine life if you take Discover Scuba here in Bali.
Is it dangerous?
No it isn’t. Scuba diving is no more dangerous than any other active sport. Just follow the instructions of your PADI Instructor and you’ll be fine.
Can I participate during my monthly menstruation period?
Yes you can. If you can do normal daily activities during your monthly period then you can dive during menstruation too.
What shall I do if I wear glasses?
The best option is to wear soft contact lenses while you are diving. Another option is to rent from us a scuba diving mask with prescription lenses (however please note we have a limited range of dive mask prescription lenses).
Who will I be diving with?
For safety reasons we limit the maximum number of Discover Scuba participants to 3 students with each Instructor. If you come with a friend or family member you can dive together in one group with your Instructor. If you come alone we will try to join you with another one or two divers. It’s much more fun to dive with buddies.
On all Discover Scuba programs at Bali Scuba you can be assured that one of our experienced PADI Instructors will be beside you at all times.
Can I book Discover Scuba for just one person?
What days do you run the Discover Scuba program?
Any day which is convenient for you.
Will I receive a certificate after completion?
You will receive a PADI Discover Scuba certificate of completion. You can share it with family and friends to show them what an awesome experience you had.
Will I be a certified scuba diver?
No you won’t. This PADI Discover Scuba program gives you a chance to try diving for fun. To become a fully certified scuba diver you will need to get your PADI licence by taking the 3-4 day PADI Open Water Diver course.
Is it cold?
Not here in Bali. The temperature is usually around 27C (80F) though it can sometimes be colder. You will be wearing one of our wetsuits anyway which will protect you from the cold.
What happens if I suffer from seasickness?
You will be diving from a boat (only 5-10 minutes from the beach) if you take your program in Sanur. We have seasickness medicine available. Drink ginger tea the night before you dive. You will be diving from the beach if you take your Discover Scuba in Tulamben so no problem with seasickness.
What happens if it is raining on the day of my program?
We scuba divers are very lucky because it never rains underwater. It’s no problem to dive while it is raining on the surface because it doesn’t affect divers below.
What is the Bali Scuba cancellation and refund policy?
We will be happy to refund any payment or deposit if you cancel for any reason up to 4 PM the day before your program. Sorry to say we cannot give any refund for cancellations after this time, for cancellations on the morning of your trip, or for cancelling any part of the program after you have begun.
