Meet the Bali Scuba Crew!
Bali Scuba Backroom Crew
KETUT & GREDEG
Ketut (with the big yellow ears) & Gredeg are our tank filling crew. You’ll usually see them carrying tanks to and from our filling station. It’s pretty hot work so don’t be shocked if you see with their shirts off (sporting an array of Balinese tattoos).
Nyoman is our equipment man – actually he’s really our equipment ‘guru’ having over 12 years experience looking after scuba gear. We can count on Nyoman to make sure our Scuba Pro & Aqua Lung gear is in tip top shape. He’s also our pool guy and he has a special request – please do don’t pee in our pool!
GUS & ILUH
These guys do an excellent job to keep our dive centre clean & tidy! Gus (left) & Iluh (right) are up before any of us are awake to make sure our dive centre is looking spotless for a big day ahead. Iluh also makes sure we have an endless supply of coffee….which is VERY important!
Bali Scuba In-water Crew
Mark is a PADI Staff Instructor (#173863), Tec Deep Instructor, EFR (medic) Instructor and Specialty Instructor: Nitrox , Deep, Drift, Wreck, Night, DUP (photogrpahy). Mark is from the USA and has 2500+ dives under his belt, almost all of them in Bali, and has been diving for over 14 years. Mark enjoys teaching all PADI Specialty Courses (especially Tec) and is happy to answer any question you may have. He’s always up for a yarn and a beer after a hard days diving!
Cariasa (Ketut) is a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer Instructor (PADI #269308), EFR (medic) Instructor and and Specialty Instructor: Nitrox, Oxygen Provider, Deep, Night EFR. He has 2000+ dives, all of them in Bali so we can say he knows the Bali dive sites very well indeed. With his fun personality and cheeky smile, you’ll love learning how to scuba dive with Cariasa. He has over 6 years of dive experience, talks a lot (it can be hard to shut him up) and enjoys teaching beginners all the way from Open Water to Divemaster.
SF Chong is our Platinum Course Director who teaches our IDCs in Bali (together with our other Course Director, Knut). He has so much experience around Asia and has a fantastic success rate when teaching IDCs here in Bali so you can be sure you’ll have both fun & success during your IDC here at Bali Scuba. He’s happy to teach in English, Chinese or Malay. Chong is a tec Instructor-trainer too and can teach so many interesting Instructor specialty courses.
Jing is Bali Scuba’s first Chinese Instructor. She’s from Beijing but loves to live in Bali. She can teach all PADI courses from beginner up to Divemaster in Chinese language and she speaks great English too. We are really happy to welcome Chinese divers to dive in Bali.
BARAK & LANDUNG
Barak (PADI #498014) left photo & Landung (PADI # 270983) right photo are our two in-house Divemasters. They both have friendly, relaxed personalities (not too mention dazzling smiles) and are a wealth of knowledge when it comes to diving Bali. Both have worked hard to be where they are now –in fact Landung was our boat captain, and will soon be our next Instructor. Barak has been diving for 13 years, is a keen macro specialist and enjoys muck diving in Puri Jati and Seraya. Landung (it means ‘tall’ in Balinese) has been guiding for 5 years. His favourite spots to dive are Nusa Penida sites in search of Mola & Manta. He’s often quite lucky too – for some reason the Whalesharks seem to come to him.
Bali Scuba Office Crew
LISA , IVAN & CICILIA
Our Sales & Reservation Crew (from left to right Lisa, Ivan, Cicilia) take care of all your diving holiday and course arrangements. These guys make sure everything runs smoothly from booking your accomodation to diving trip logistics. With great attention to detail and ‘can do’ attitudes, their main focus is that you enjoy your experience with us. Lisa is from New Zealand and handles most of the online inquiries (so is usually glued to a computer screen). You’ll meet her either before or after your dive trip, she’s always interested in hearing about your dive experience and can offer advice about other Bali holiday activites. Ivan is originally from Jakarta but spent a lot of time in Singapore, so he has excellent english. When he’s not in the office he is usually diving and has just become a certified PADI Divemaster. Cicilia is the new-girl in our crew, but has extensive previous experience in the dive business in Bali. She’s a hard-working girl because as well as working here at Bali Scuba she’s also in the final stages of her Master’s degree.
Made is our operational Guru, and the staff who’s been with us the longest. He originally started working as a driver back in the old days and now orgainizes everything from our drivers and dive guides to the number of tanks to take on a trip - you’ll find him in the office meticulously planning every detail on our diving schedule.
Nita is our lovely accountant, she’s been with us for ages taking care of financial matters - if we need money we have to get past her! She lives very locally so is a great source of information if you need to know about anything about Sanur or Balinese culture.
AYU & KADEK
Meet our retail shop girls - Ayu (left) or Kadek (right)! They’re the first people you see when you come to Bali Scuba so please give them a big happy ‘Hi’ as you enter. Need to buy some new equipment? They’ll help you out with your diving gear needs. They don’t dive themselves – yet!
Bali Scuba Transport Crew
DEWA , AWAN & TUTBUD
These guys (from left to right Dewa, TutBud, Awan) may well be your first point of contact as they’ll be picking you up from the airport or your hotel. They have been driving around Bali for years and always know where everything is. Ask them about a particular temple or famous landmark and they will be happy to tell you the history behind it. You can feel safe with these guys as they have driven to the dive sites so many times they could do it with their eyes closed - hopefully they don’t!
ATU , TUTMUL , DAMPER & RITI
Meet the boat crew of our two speedboats (left to right) BS1 Captain Atu & crew Tut Mul & BS2 Captain Damper & crew Riti. These guys know everything there is to know about the ocean, tides and currents around here. All born and bred in the area, they know the seas like to back of their hands. You can count on them to be there when you hit the surface after a particularly fast drift dive.
Bali Scuba Owners / Managers
CHRIS , KNUT & SIMON
Chris (left photo)– PADI Instructor (PADI #462391). Chris started Bali Scuba 12 years ago so it’s all his fault! If you are gadget freak and piercing maniac then he is the guy to talk with! He’s usually based in the office however can still be found teaching courses now and then. Ask to see his Mola mola tattoo. Knut (middle photo) is our in-house PADI Course Director and PADI Tec Instructor trainer (PADI # 502282). Knut has an unbeatable record teaching IDCs and Tec Instructor courses, and he’s also in charge of all Divemaster Internships. Originally from Norway, he has been living in Bali for the past 10 years to escape the long, dark nights. Ask him anything about equipment, gadgets, tec diving – you name it he knows it! Knut is highly experienced with over 18 years of diving under his belt so is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to anything about diving! Simon (right photo) is originally from England, though he fled the foul weather and awful food 20 years ago (he ain’t going back). These days you’ll find him around the office, or (incredibly rarely) in the water.
We are really lucky to have each and every one of our crew members. From our always smiling Indonesian staff to the Western influences from around the world. Together, our goal is to ensure that you have a fun, safe and professional dive expereince here at Bali Scuba so you can leave Bali with nothing but smiles and great diving memories :)
Thanks to William Tan for taking photos which make us all look nicer than we really are.
