Four of the Best Dive Sites in Bali:
Here at Bali Scuba we are frequently asked “What are the best dive sites in Bali?” It’s almost an impossible question to answer. Here in Bali you can wreck dive, drift dive, muck dive, explore crystal clear coves, discover unusual marine life, dive with manta rays and the mighty mola – the list goes on!
We recommend that to get the most out of your Bali diving holiday you explore a range of different sites to experience everything that Bali has to offer. Here are four of our favourite dive spots which showcase the beautiful and diverse underwater world around Bali.
Blue Lagoon is a famous Padang Bai dive site and, as the name suggests, you’ll be diving into crystal clear waters and exploring colourful reefs. Padang Bai dive sites are mainly sloping coral reefs with a number of mini-walls and there are also a couple of muck diving sites and a small wreck. Padang Bai is equally good for spotting macro critters as it is for big fish including passing pelagics. Highlights of Padang Bai include frogfish, turtles, a range of nudibranch species, schooling snappers, octopus, rhinopias scorpionfish and we’ve even seen mimic octopus here too.
Exhilarating drifts, vibrant healthy corals and well known for manta ray and mola sightings. Nusa Penida is often cited as being one of the best dive sites in Bali for good reasons. Cruising along the south coast of the island the rugged cliffs and topside scenery are just as stunning as the reefs themselves. The north coast of Nusa Penida offers some exhilarating drift dives where you’ll fly along the reef watching the action as you go – no swimming required, just enjoy the show! To maximise your time and to give you great value for money, Nusa Penida is a three dive trip. You’ll cross the channel on our purpose built speedboats and enjoy a day out on the water while soaking up the sun in between dives.
Tulamben is home to one of the most famous, dive-able shipwrecks in the world. The wreck offers easy conditions which makes it suitable for all level of divers. It usually has little or no current and because the deck has broken down you can swim between the ribs, explore the hull, see the guns, wheel and anchor, all with direct access to the surface. Penetration dives are not needed but if that is your bag, penetration is possible in the deeper sections (we also conduct the PADI Wreck Diver Specialty course here if you’d like to advance your skills). As a completely coral encrusted structure, hoards of fish are attracted to the wreck like metal to a magnet. You’ll see schooling fish, incredible macro life, stunning corals, resident turtles, bumphead parrotfish, reef sharks and we have even seen seasonal mola here!
Are you ready for adventure and adrenaline? Do you want to see sharks and pelagics here in Bali? Gili Tepekong is one of the best dive sites in Bali for more experienced divers. Currents here can be stronger than at other sites but as the saying goes – more current, more fish! The rocky and coral encrusted underwater topography is home to clouds of reef fish and we see reef sharks on almost every dive. The myriad of colours and non-stop action will keep you mesmerised for all three of your dives. This is Bali diving at its best!
